Pharmacy researcher fights skin cancer with Zzzs

Mike Gibson has been conducting research on a rare neurologic disease for over 30 years. He has recently teamed up with researchers at the University of California San Diego (UCSD) for a two-year project to continue his research on a selected neurological brain disease called succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSADH) deficiency, a defect of the GABA metabolic pathway.
The HSSA Board met March 4th and the minutes of that meeting have been posted. We had some difficulty scheduling the first meeting of the year due to illness and schedules. We apologize for any inconvenience. The next meeting of the Board is scheduled for May 6, 2015. Subsequent 2015 meetings are scheduled for August 5th and November 4th. All meetings are held at the McKinstry SIERR Building and begin at 3 PM. Please mark your calendars.
The Washington Biotechnology & Biomedical Association (WBBA) will host its annual Leadership Summit in Spokane May21, 2015, at WSU Spokane. Leaders from across the state meet in Spokane to share knowledge about major life science activities and initiatives. HSSA anticipates three Board vacancies in the upcoming months. One each appointed by the City of Spokane Mayor, Spokane County Commissioners and the Governor. The HSSA Board of Directors will meet Wed., February 4, 2015, 3 PM at the McKinstry SIERR Building, 850 E Spokane Falls Blvd. The meeting will be held in the Roundhouse 1 & 2 conference room and the public is welcome. The HSSA Board will conduct a “Special” Board meeting by conference call at 10 AM on Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014. The meeting will have only one item for discussion related to action on a specific grant proposal. HSSA Board meetings are public, so members of the public wishes to listen may contact the HSSA Executive Director at 509.483.5985 to make arrangements to do so.
Representatives of three Pacific Northwest biomedical companies toured Spokane this spring to consider relocating operations here, under a joint recruitment effort by the Health Sciences & Services Authority of Spokane County and Greater Spokane Incorporated, the HSSA says.
